Graffiti

This is a picture of a wall, at a construction site, in Grenoble. I’ve been focusing on urban photography lately and I really like the contrast of vivid colors in a graffiti. There will probably be more to come on this topic later on.

Where legends go to die

Lately, I’ve been working on urban photography – using HDR techniques. I’ve been focusing most of my time on shooting abandoned buildings and destroyed stuff.
This shot of a 1st serie Mini was taken on a construction site called Bouchayer – Viallet, in Grenoble, France. More about this place coming soon…

Abandoned Warehouse

Another one of my urban exploration series. The picture was taken at Bouchayer-Viallet, an old steel factory that’s being torn down to make apartment buildings to cope with the recent increase of the population in Grenoble. Part of this area will be turned into an art museum dedicated to 21st century art forms such as [...]

Abandoned veranda

HDR photography of the helical parking building in Grenoble. Gloomy, isn’t it?

Panoramic view of Grenoble

This is the scenery  you actually see from the top of the helical parking building located at the heart of Grenoble. The reason it almost looks like it’s been drawn is that I’m using HDR which is a photography technique that consists in taking a picture of a scene with 3 different light exposures to [...]

Enigmatic staircase

I love this picture! It’s one of the first I made of my « urban exploration » period. This is the runway of a famous helical parking building located at the center of Grenoble. The place isn’t normally accessible to anyone, and we had to wait for a couple of hours, for someone to open the gates, [...]

Monochromatic beam

A photo I took from the top of the helical parking building, in Grenoble. There’s a wonderful roof view where you can see the whole city from.

Underground Alcoves

Here’s a shot I particularly like ! I took it while I was in the famous helical parking building, in downtown Grenoble. This 12 stories-tall building was built at the beginning of the 20th century. There’s an access to the roof that offers a wonderful view of the city. If you ever get the chance [...]

Grenoble University Graduate School of Management

The place I spent the last two years of my life, and at the same time, the last years of student-hood. The IAE Grenoble is the Graduate Business School which I got my Master’s degree in Marketing from.

Fallen Leaves

The Grenoble tramway rails, in October. This picture was taken on University grounds during the autumn break.

Zooming on the Three Towers

Details from one of the Three Towers (Les Trois Tours), a symbol of Grenoble’s architecture since 1967.

Balcony

Details of a building that looks like a « S » in downtown Grenoble, by the Three Towers.

No, this is not a postcard!

THIS picture reflects exactly Grenoble as seen by French people (and foreigners). The Three Towers (well, at least one of them), the mountains and the cable car ! Even though this really is a classic picture, I felt compelled to take it anyway!

Looking Up

« Les Trois Tours » (The Three Towers) are the symbol of Grenoble. They represent the three mountain chains surrounding the city.
Built in 1967, they were, at the time, the tallest inhabited towers in Europe!

Winter’s Reflexion

Grenoble is located in the French Alps. And Winter definitely is a great time to come here. Even though I’ve been skiing since I was 3 years old, I’ve always been careful not to bring my camera with me as tripping and falling remains possible.
This time though, I’ve decided to face my fear! Blue sky, [...]

Lights out

I love this picture! It’s one of the first I made of my « urban exploration » period. This is the runway of a famous helical parking building located at the center of Grenoble. The place isn’t normally accessible to anyone, and we had to wait for a couple of hours, for someone to open the gates, [...]

From the roof

I’ve been wanting to get into a parking building in downtown Grenoble for a long time. It’s an helical parking that you wouldn’t expect to find there. On the 13th floor is an access to the roof where you overview the whole city. It’s a very interesting place for photographers to go! The strange feel [...]

Sunday in the fall

Spring and Fall are the seasons when you usually get the best lighting. I like this picture of the Gambetta avenue, in Grenoble – as the postprod treatment gives it a warmer touch than on the original picture.

Stone Arches

Stone arches located at the top of the Bastille hill, surrounding Grenoble. It used to be a fort during the Napoleon Era.

Father

I just love this picture of my dad. I had to put it this blog, it’s probably the portrait you’ll see here.

Kanji

This is another view of the « thousand torii » path to the Fushimi Inari Shrine. If you ever get the chance to go to Kyoto, you should definitely take half a day to go there, as it really is a special place ! Moreover, if you end up going there after a snowfall, as I did, [...]

Path to infinity

In the mountains surrounding Kyoto is the shinto temple of Fushimi Inari. This temple is famous for its 1000 torii gates which mark out the way to the top of the mountain. All of these red gates have been brought up there on foot and fixed to the ground by hand, by monks and believers. [...]

Cherry blossom

A picture of a cherry tree, taking during Hanami season, at Nagoya Castle. With Momiji season, it is the best time of the year to visit Japan. Check my other post on Hanami to have more information about this tradition.

Paper Lanterns

Hanami is the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the beauty of flowers, « flower » in this case almost always meaning cherry blossoms sakura, or ume blossoms.
From mid January to early May, sakura bloom all over Japan. The blossom forecast (sakurazensen) is announced each year by the weather bureau, and is watched carefully by those planning hanami [...]

A Japanese stereotype

As I came out of class, on day, I saw this Japanese guy sleeping on a bench! I just had to take that picture as it perfectly reflects the ability of Japanese people to fall asleep just about anywhere, in a split second – while holding a cellphone! You want to know what living among [...]

8 Ball

One of my friend playing pool at a sports center, in the Hoshigaoka district of Nagoya City – Japan. The picture was given a sepia treatment to simulate an old-camera photo.

Land of the rising sun

My apartment in Nagoya was located in Yagoto-Nisseki, the University district. Right behind my residence was a traditional Japanese cemetery. It’s very common, in Japan, to see people walking around cemeteries just to look at the architecture – as each tomb is harmoniously designed, almost like a work of art.
One morning, at 4:00 AM (Japan [...]

Vintage wine

Picture of a wooden stick holding a vineyard at a house in Bordeaux.

Nagoya Skyline

This picture was taken on my last day in Nagoya. I had decided to climb up the TV tower that’s located downtown. I had meant to do that since the day I had arrived, and I just had to do it before going back to France.
I particularly like this picture for its sepia treatment which [...]

Garden of Kinkakuji

One of the most memorable moments I have from the year I spent in Japan is the Momiji season, which can be assimilated to America’s Indian Summer.
A Momiji is a Japanese maple tree with tiny leaves. In November, just for a few days, those leaves turn reddish, orange and yellow and gather to create a [...]
